This project was fully implemented in October, 1997.
The Monroe County School District appreciated the Mississippi Department of Education for their funding efforts in helping school districts begin to move forward in the area of educational technology and electronic "connectivity" to each other and the rest of the world.
Establish a district wide area network for all school sites. Each campus was linked to each other and to the Mississippi Department of Education's "state network backbone."
Each school site held "NetDay" wiring projects to allow community volunteers to pull network cable to all classrooms, computer labs, library/media centers and administrative offices.
Each school site received a file server, network hubs and switches, routers and other necessary equipment to connect their school to the state's "backbone" and to the Internet.
Fiber optic cable was used to connect all buildings on each campus to the main network/server room.
All district faculty and staff were provided opportunity to attend various technology training sessions sponsored by the MDE's Office of Educational Technology.
